In short

The Carpe Diem is a traditionally built phinisi, a classic Indonesian double masted wooden sailing vessel, made for leisure in style. The 24 meter or 79 foot sailing ship was floated on 29 November 2012 and on 17 March 2013 she made her maiden voyage from Bira, South Sulawesi to Jepara. Here she was fitted and endorsed with her final, stately interior and exterior dressings. On 4 July 2014 Carpe Diem sailed from Jepara to Probolinggo in East Java for dry-docking and certification.

Carpe Diem Description

Having set foot on the boat you will find a very spacious deck with shaded outdoor seating and chilling areas. The ship has a fully equipped kitchen including an espresso machine. Organic and natural toiletries are readily available. There are two double cabins with one of them having optional space for a third passenger. There are also two comfortable bunk cabins with each accommodating two people. All cabins are equipped with aircon units.

Onboard services

On board we provide a full range of services. Carpe Diem’s kitchen staff does their best to pamper you with a unique menu that is the result of the fine blending of herbs and spices of Indonesia with locally grown and carefully picked ingredients. Water, coffee and tea are readily available and we also cater to special dietary requests. We have dining areas inside and on the deck and there are plenty of spaces to hang out if you want to enjoy some quiet time to read a book or take a nap.

On the Carpe Diem we provide a balanced and healthy diet by stocking locally grown and organic products wherever we can. A typical menu for the day would consist of an early breakfast made from a selection of cereals, muesli, granola, seasonal fruit and tea/coffee. Usually after the first dive the staff will be ready to serve a warm breakfast with a choice of eggs, toast, pancakes, fruit salad, smoothies and more. For lunch and dinner you can expect a variation of international and Indonesian meals, with a Mediterranean influence on the cooking style and use of ingredients.

Lunch is served between 12.30 to 13.30 and dinner between 19.00 to 20.30. Mid morning and afternoon snacks will be made available. We are also ready to fulfill any special dietary requests and to obtain alcoholic beverages which are not included in our charter rate. However since government tax on imported alcoholic beverages is very high we recommend our guests coming from abroad to bring their own preferred alcoholic beverages. Indonesia allows tax free import of 1 liter per person.

Carpe Diem carries a dinghy or small boat with outboard engine for passenger transport between boat and shore. When you arrive at the port of embarkation in the beginning of your trip our staff will greet you on land and bring you safely to the Carpe Diem where a staircase and small platform make it easy to board the ship. The dinghy is also there to aid with most activities such as carrying divers to and from the dive site, or shipping over all necessary equipment for a barbecue or campfire to the beach.

For leisure trips and all activities we highly recommend standard travel insurance to cover for any emergency medical costs. For diving any insurance that covers diving related injuries is mandatory. Travel insurance often covers for diving but we highly recommend a specific dive insurance with DAN Europe or DAN America as they have a worldwide network of experts and access to facilities. Please also take note that Indonesian law requires that we have our guests sign a liability release.
